Vanessa Guimarães is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in New York City. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. Working across sculpture, painting, drawing her practice centers the body as both subject and site of inquiry.
Guimarães’s work navigates the relationship between bodies, and memory often by questioning how our physical experience of space is shaped by a predominantly two-dimensional view, even as our individual encounters with space are far more imaginative and intuitive. For Guimarães, vacancy becomes a site of possibility, balancing understandings both tangible and imagined.
Her work is marked by a heightened attentiveness or excessive sensitivity to the presence of others. Through subtle gestures and delicate forms, she explores what it means to notice, to be near and to remember.
